Water and Air Trips

The Chinese Fortune Calendar has three travel queries. "Beginning of the journey" rates the departure day and sets the tone for the whole trip. "Short trips" is for errands of a day or two not far from home. "Water and air trips" is narrower: it rates the crossing by water or air itself, that is, the safety and calm of the way.

In Chinese tradition, water and air are elements beyond human control. So for such trips what matters most is not "luck in affairs" but the absence of dangerous influences. On an unfavourable day there is a higher risk of delays, cancelled flights, lost luggage or feeling unwell on the way.

What the query covers:

• a flight, including flights with connections;
• a helicopter, hot-air balloon or paraglider flight;
• a trip on a ferry, a motor ship or a boat;
• a sea or river cruise;
• a ride on a yacht, a boat or a kayak;
• in a broader sense, any journey in which you "leave the ground".

When to use a different query:

• the day you leave on holiday or a business trip: "beginning of the journey"; for a flight it is worth checking both queries;
• a trip by car, train or bus for a day or two: "short trips";
• the first drive in a new car: "starting traffic on a new vehicle";
• extreme sports such as skydiving or diving: "extreme sports, competitions".

How the Calendar rates the day. For water and air trips the favourable Day Officers are Open, Success and Establish. The Danger and Close Officers are unfavourable, as is the Danger lunar mansion. The Orion mansion is favourable. The day is supported by the Travelling Horse and the Noble Man. It is weakened by the Death Angel, Robbery Sha (including Month and Personal Robbery Sha), Year Sha, Month Sha, the Ungrateful Penalty Day and the Personal Destroyer. So for a flight, a "good day" is above all a day free of these stars.

Tip. Plane tickets are often bought in advance. Choose your departure day using two queries at once: "beginning of the journey" and "water and air trips". If there is no perfect day, at least choose one without the Death Angel and Robbery Sha, and pick an auspicious hour for take-off. Personal Robbery Sha is calculated from your Bazi chart, so the Personal Calendar is especially useful here.
