Month Sha

The Month Sha (Yue-sha 月煞) is one of the "Three Sha" or "Three Killings" of the month. Three Killings of the month can be found in the same way as the Year Sha, but for the Month Sha, the point of reference is the Earthly Branch (aka the animal sign) of the month, not the year. It is true that while the Earthly Branches of the year (the so-called "animals of the Chinese zodiac") are known to many, the animals of the month are much less well-known. However, it is not difficult to find the animal of the month, because they are assigned to 12 months of the year in the same way as it is in the Gregorian calendar, which we are accustomed to use. If we know the Earthly Branch of the month, it’s very easy to find the Three Sha of the month.  For example, in the month of the Dragon (Chen), the Three Killings would be the days of the Snake (Xi), Horse (Wu) and Goat (Wei). But these are not the same negative energies, but three kinds of different sha: the Month Robbery Sha (Yue Jie-sha 月劫煞), the Month Calamity (Yue Zai-sha 月災煞) and the Month Sha (Yue-sha 月煞). In Feng Shui there are also Month Shas, but since in Feng Shui we work with directions, the Three Shas mean the cardinal directions. In the picture above, for example, we see how to find the Three Month Shas of the Dragon (roughly corresponding to April). We see the Three Month Sha at the bottom of the compass. The Snake (Xi) is the last 15-degree sector of the southeast, the Horse (Wu) is the middle of the south, and the Goat (Wei) is the beginning of the southwest sector. The same principle is used for choosing dates, but here instead of directions we take into account the corresponding days. Here we are going to talk about the Month Sha. You can easily find the Month Sha from the table. For example, in any month of the Tiger, these are the days of the Ox, in the month of the Rabbit — the days of the Dog, and so on.

In the Tze-Zhi system of choosing auspicious dates, as in Feng Shui, we do not want to disturb any of the Month Sha, and therefore we try not to choose such days for important matters or undertakings. This is a general rule.

As we see in the table, the Earthly branches (“animals of the Chinese zodiac”) of the days of the Month Sha are always one of the four animals of the Earth: Ox, Dragon. Dog and Goat. In Bazi, these four signs refer to the “repositories” that complete the development cycle of an element. Since these are “storages” or “graves”, they mean stagnation in movement, indicate difficulty in development, delays and obstacles, loneliness, unsociability and immobility. Like a  killing-sha, such days foreshadow all kinds of delays and meddlings.

During the days of the Three Killings, bringing the Month Sha, it is better not to start important affairs implying clear deadlines and tuff schedules. Try not to submit on these days documents that require a quick decision or response in a specific time frame. Be careful on these days, especially when it comes to dealing with matters that require immediate response. One should also avoid dealing with real estate transactions, buying and selling land during Month Sha days, as this Sha is inherently an element of earth. There may be obstacles in the process of selling property, because the Month Sha is the grave of the element, delaying and slowing down all processes.

However, since the day of the Three Killings of the Month is a day that is in a negative relationship with the month, not the year, the result of doing or starting important things on the Three Killingsof the Month day usually lasts only until the end of the month. Therefore, in general, if it is impossible to avoid such a day, it can be used to start something more long-term, to engage in long-term projects or activities, to develop a long relationship. But even in this case you should choose a favourable hour by calculating it in our Feng Shui Fortune Calendar. For example, it is considered acceptable to schedule a marriage ceremony on the days of the Three Sha of the month, as marriages are usually arranged for the long term. Of course, this is only acceptable if you can't find the perfect date, and you're desperate to get married. Nevertheless, it is better not to play wedding on such a day,  if possible.

However, avoid starting something short-term these days (celebrations, trips, vacations, etc.). Also, one should not use Month Sha days for starting studies, preparing for exams or taking exams. Those of you who are going on a diet should especially avoid the Month Sha days - they can be bad for health.
